LIDICKER 1990 May 27 cont. * Rock Thrush - 1 δ * Black Redstart - 2 * Blue throat - 2 δ + 1 ♀ (♀ visited small cavity in rock and cups like it may have a nest there) * Linnet - 4 * Snow Finch - 1 n=13 After a short rest at Marco's, Louise & I walked around the large castle in the center of town (Castello Uri) & then walked NW toward river (Fiume Ticino), S, along the river & then back through town, directly along via Carlo Salvioni (named after a relative of Marco's). This excursion was 18:30 to 20:40. Birds seen: Rock Dove - 20+, Collared Turtle Dove - 5, Swi. Tit - 20+ White Wagtail - 1-3 (2 along R. & 1 on a lawn), Swallow - 2, House Martin - 70+, Starling - 2, Common Crow - 2, Pied Fly catcher - 2, Blackbird - 80+ Gt. Tit - 10+ (incl. ~4 fledged young begging from parents), House Sparrow - 2+, Italian Sparrow - 50+ (< a few individuals seem to be hybrids), Chaffinch - 2+, Great Finch - 5 ♀, European Goldfinch - 3 n=17 May 28 wrote Marco's office. Walked on paths w/ Marco in AM. 14:30-20:30 went on an excursion to Monte Generoso. Drove S. to Mendrisio which is only a few km. from Chiasso on the Italian border. Drove up winding road to ½ km. below Bellevista (1223 m. elev.) which is a lookout & stop for cog train (funicolare) on way to Monte Generoso. Walked up to ~1500 m., almost to top.
