LIDICKER 1990 May 27 cont. to give into this area at this time of year because of snow. And only a little snow remains low. Mammals seen: Marmota marmota - ~5 + lots of humming Sorex igni + limited # microtus arvalis + M. ricalis . Scots & Lepus timidus, Vulpes, & Martes. Took photo of a Lachinet with 8 or 9 species of small mammals, including Neorys, Sorex minutus, S. araneus, S. alpinus, Clethromys glaudalus, A jakenens sylvaticus, A. flavicollis, Microtus arvalis, & Pitymys subterraneus. He looked for Chamois at ibex but could not see any because it was mid-day & they tend to be resting. Reps: Lacerta vivipara -1 Rana temporaria - abundant egg masses + some tadpoles mostly in ponds & along stream through a bog; caught 2 adults. T. trivius formos alpinus - ~20 seen + 2 small ponds + 2 caught & photographed. Have orange/red bellies. Birds: Marco showed me an area where Black Grouse are resident, but we did not see any. Golden Eagle - 1 ad. & 1 imm. Kestrel - 1 (hovering the young eagle) Swift - 2 Corvia (seen ~25+ (valley)) Hooded (seen -1) (Valley). These 2 forms seem to act ?:in species in this area. White Dip. T. -5 at (gray head & back, brown wings, & mantled; saw flight song on several occasions; found nest w/6 eggs & 2 broods). Raven -1 Dunnock -1 Whooper - 20+ (most are seen with the windfalls + quite white on forehand).
