LIDICKER 1990 Feb. 14 went. Warm weather. The war is experiencing a much earlier "spring" than normal. Perhaps the ants are less stimulated to dig deep a jumping from surface nests. I think we should have them from this have been in the same spot for several months. 3 pairs Wood Ducks seen on the Bay. Also Wilson's Snipe seen today & yesterday. Fox Sparrow - 2 Today was the first time Yellowthroats have been singing. Columbia S.C. trip. Feb. 20 - Visit at USC - particularly w/ Wally Dawson & Pat DeCourcy. Dawson came to USC in 1962 from Ohio St. Univ. (PhD). Pat & George came in 1966; George died in 1970. Pat gained Assoc. Prof. in that 1976 after 1 yr. in Psychology Dept. Pat's son died in climbing accident in 1987 (Mark); her daughter lives in Cape Hatteras, N.C. & is w/ husband (with kids along). Feb. 21 Columbia to Beckham Swamp Rd. (drive almost to end but was flooded), Duffy Pond, Congaree Swamp Natl. Mon., return home via Orangeburg & Blackville. Birds recorded: T. Vulture - 20+ Kildav - 20+ Least Sandpiper - 6 (B. Swamp Rd) Mallard - 3 juv. + 18 + 24? = 9 Red Shouldered Hawk - 2 Mourn. Dove - 2 Ring N. Gull - 20+ Great Egret - 1 Canada Goose - 12 Red-tail Hawk - 1 Kestrel - 8+ Barred Owl - 2
