L'dicks 1982 De Santiago. Took train overnight to Valdivia. Nov. 17 - 19 Seminario internacional sobre Regulación Jabellacional, hosted by Instituto de Ecología y Evolución at Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia. My host was Roberto Murcia. Only other gringo attending was Prof. Shapiro of UC Davis. Took overnight bus back to Santiago. Nov. 20 - Spent day in Santiago with Luis Contreras & Eduardo Fuentes (Universidad Católica). In morning we went to the famous natural study area in N forest hills east of the city. After lunch with Fuentes family (Eduardo, Yolanda, Polla (< 2yos) & Marva (infant)), Eduardo & Luis & I toured La Hermida - one of four barrios in city w/ UC. Catholic & the city Center. Boarded airlift ~ 1800, met Miguel Altieri (UC Berkeley) just arriving at airlift. My flight left 22:25. Nov. 21 - Bwd to Berkeley v/a Lima, & Miami. Had 7 hour layover in Miami. Went to try Bisqueen. Av. S.F. 18:10. Birds seen in South America: V = Valdivia area; S = vic. Santiago Corncrant (Valdivia to Carrel) - family P. olivaceus Great Grebe (Podiceps major) - 1 V Buff necked Ibis (Theristicus candidus) - 5+ (fields N of Valdivia) Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus) - com, V.
