LIDICKER 1982 Grizzly Island, Solano Ca., Calif. May 7 Went with Dr. Uzi Rithe (Hebrew Univ., Jerusalem) to see tags for down mice. Uzi brought along an Israeli friend: Shmuel Vurnis - a landscape architect & botanist. We set 103 Longworth baited with peanut butter & oats in 3 places in order to sample 3 kinds of old field gradients: One was an abandoned Avocado (with some Hordeworms); the 2nd was an old "Barley" field but actually Lolium & other gresses dominated. The 3rd was on along the edge of some large planted bunch grass - at least it seemed so the plants go into the field but quite a straight edge. Saw 2 groups of elk. One had 17 ??, 3 yy., ?? & 3 fawns; & the other about 3? yr w/?? away consisted of 13 bucks, one ? wkld - obviously the largest & with a magnificent set of antlers still in velvet standing off to one side of the group. Lots of flowers, a goldenrod, I saw one div of ?? in a distinctive display. May 8 Uzi picked up trash. Caught only one scaled M:crater? One of our traps looks too narrow. Explained and are to repair them before leaving here. Chilean Trip 15 - 21 November 15-16 Nov. Travel to Santiago, via Miami, Caracas, Manaus, Santa Cruz (Bolivia), La Paz, & Arica (Chile). Spend PM of 16th with Luis Condreres of University
