Smolen Dick Holmes - leading Dartmouth up course in Tropical Ecology; arrived for lunch on 5th 7 Feb - tour to Volcan Poas arranged by Horizontes Travel Agency through IUCN. Tour guide = Woody Moyos, former of Cal U, & has been in CR for 3+ yrs; studied of Don Jarzen & works mainly on Osa Peninsula. Also visited towns of Gracia & Sarchi. 8 Feb - travel home via Miami. Birds seen = Costa Rica RPV = Rio Puerto Viejo; LS = La Selva; VP = Volcan Poas Gt. Blue Heron - sev. RPV Snowy Egret - 1 " Little Blue Heron - 15+ RPV Green Heron - 1 RPV. Cattle Egret - frequent in mats. Black Vulture Turkey Vulture Semi-plumbeous Hawk - 1 LS Spotted Sandpiper - 20+ RPV Ruddy Ground Dove - 1 LS Blue Ground Dove - 3 " Olive-headed Quail-dove - 2 pr. LS parrots, parakeets; possibly parrot let seen flying overhead at LS but none could be identified. Grouse killed Ani - 5+ near LS
