overnight field trip to Hass Creek. Left labs at (Steve last
day)
N F (Last N. County) ~1140. Stayed at Fox Lake
? Fairbanks to fill own water jug - famous Fox Spring.
Continued N on Elliott Highway. It's dist = 4 1/4 hr.
Drive to Hass Creek cave (~21 mi NW Livermored
by cir). It rained most of the way but began to
clear up when we got there.
Second mi: to N of the Hass Creek Bridge. There is
a farm area that burned in 1968 & 69. Do not know when
Steve had found Microtines xanthographus for the
2 previous years on set trips. Sign was abundant
& we could leave the radio equipment anywhere - on
either side of the road. We set 21 by Shannon traps (7 ea.)
on the east side of the road (dry outwood habitat).
About 12: further 5 in and traps along the edge of the
muckland forest. Have an area 19 Sg. Showers - I and ?
of them is a grazing area where there was a small part of
microtine sign (W side Road.), but not Mx sign, &
along the edge of the black spruce forest. Steve &
Jerry set 6 ea. The in and out set 5 min species.
I set mine 1 number on E side of highway when there
was sign of Mx. Jerry's 5 were in the forest. Then
we went back to Hass Creek, crossed it, & set
5 mins sp. and in a black spruce bog & 5 were on
along the edge of a small bog lake (a few cut-tops
were seen in the latter area. Along the W side of the
cottonwood
Creek an 2 fetid gums. Have an area now Mx.
