July 23 Steve West, Jerry, & I went to their study area N. 1/4 Fairbanks at the Wickiup Creek Burn (1971). Went with Steve on his trap line. He had ~5 clothiering netlines on his northern grid & 4 C.V. & 4 Microlite decoy lines on his trap grid. Then Jerry showed me and his students how to set a plot. Took some photos including 2 of a large red squirrel hidden. While on Jerry's grid, a heavy rainstorm hit & continued about a hour. We got pretty wet before we ran to a fish camp & looked in for shelter. The only birds seen were Gray Jays, St. Columbine Jaycross, & 2 flocks of miniducks flying over. We returned to Fairbanks after eating a brief lunch & visited at Jerry & Steve's Office (Dep't of Forestry) & at the Dept. of Arctic Bot. Chatted also with Dave Klein, head of Alaska Corp.
