L10 Chicken 1975 Day 7 cont. Caught up with Dave again at the stand on the main College Petal meadow - ~4 mi W to S. Starting when a spring is located on the N side of the road. This meadow is beautiful & several acres in size. The vegetation is very diverse. Microtus sign is present but scarce. There is also an isolated smaller meadow just to the W of the main one. Took 2 photos of main meadow & 1 of small one (which also had M. sign). Saw a field vole along with [E.5] common fruit W. of here; calling to find out why different from those at Returned to Lake Pillsbury Road when we ate opposite. (Martin + Katherine) lunch & then visited with the Trow's (unit 4-4). Then we had a swim in at the swimming hole & left for home ~1715. Stopped briefly in Chardale for a snack & gas. Arrived home ~2045. Mammals other than chipmunks or mice! Gophers - pelagicatus but field sign specifically noted in meadows & woistier areas. Black-tailed deer - ~10 seen in all, including 1 doe + fawn + 1 doe + spotted fawn. Callospermophilus - seen at several sites in the High country. Tamiasciurus hudsonicus - 1 juvenile sighted high on Bondara ridge, nears at College Petal & 1 seen on L. Pillsbury Road. Sciurus griseus - 1 looking very pregnant at L.P. Road. coyote - several sets seen at College Petal.
