Returned to room ~ 22:00 to start checking my notes again. [illegible] Nils thinks that the average annual salary in Norway is about 8000 kr. I did not meet Nils colleague Eivind Ostbye because he is spending a week away in Poland (today). The new appointee in the related position of Professor of Ecology & Morphology at the University of Helsinki is Olli Järvinen. Oct. 4 Nils met me at 08:30 & we drove to the airport. Still darkened. Some heavy rain overnight. We had breakfast at the airport. SAS flight left at 09:55 (scheduled departure at 09:50). Arrived København at 10:50. Around the airport in København noticed Black-backed Gull & Common (= Mew) Gull. SAS flight to Seattle took off at 12:07 (scheduled departure at 11:50). Flying time 9 hrs & 25 min, with 8 hr. time change. At 15:10 we were crossing the E. coast of Greenland. Went over Great Slave Lake & on into Seattle at 13:25. Customs & 2nd clearance. United flight to S.F. on schedule. Arrived left 16:00 & arrived ~ 17:45.
