L'DICKSON 1981 Sep 28 cont. Today so I wrote a message for Dr. Walkowiak was in a meeting w/ Pinoski, Andryszewska, NaƂeczko, etc., as I left a note for the Drs. Wacek Malinowski was having his term day so I joined the party in his office. Then I talked with him regarding his research at Zomba (his PhD work) & current work on captive white mice. The Zomba research involved 2 large grids run weekly for about 60 to 90 weeks respectively. One was for Clethrionomys glareolus (hornica) & the other for Microtus arvalis (Loritik polny o.w. zywczyn). He is interested in spatial & temporal dimensions of grouping, & is trying to look for sequence order groups of individuals based on trapping record. He also calculated a distance between centers of home range & finds a consistent value over wide range of densities. For the Mice he is studying group 1 & 2 are placed in 2 large cages connected by 2 tunnels. He claims that an isolated mouse stands to death at 2.5 g / food / day, but that grouped mice do fine on this amount. Then I went back to a 2nd party in his office. Krystyna got out & the meeting at ~ 11:30. Met Dr. Fisher who is Vice-Director of the Institute. Also Wicke Mazurkiewicz said hello briefly. Krystyna arranged through Pinoski: to have a letter signed by Fisher stating that I had permission to take specimens out of the country. We liked get away from the dust, until close about 1300.
