LIDICKER 1981 Sept. 23 cont. Of grave robbers. Next to this church is a small one which Napoleon wanted to take to France, but before it was his own thel, his reign was over. Then we went to the old town & old market place. There there is another large church. This one is baroque style. We also visited briefly on Wolowski's house on the market place that now belong to PAN. It has a formal meeting room called the "raspberry room" because of the color of its walls. Had dinner with Laci in restaurant on the square & later went to a wine cellar for a glass of wine. At 1530 we regained our driver & went back to the Inspektat. Stopped to buy a record on the way. Brief discussion with Laci & then at 1550 I was driven to the train station & with the help of 3 people we send on my way. The Poznan area is historically the center of Polish culture became it was the home of the Wielka Polska tribe, one of the original 3 tribes. Later this tribe conquered the Mialty Polska ( Krakow region) & Mazocze tribe of central Poland to form the first united Poland. Train left Poznan at 16:05 - exactly on schedule. After an uneventful ride we arrived in Warszawa at 20:00. This is where my first serious grief of the trip -- I left my camera on my seat of the train. Jan Pi-nowski was to meet me, but he was a little late & so I walked to the Hotel Forum with the help of a young chef who seemed determined to help me carry my bags.
