LIDICKON 1981 Apr. 26 cont. Of this grove of Spruce, One shoot to heavily colonize after the fire is Ceanothus integerrimus. We noticed that about 1 in 10 shoots we killed by gophers feeding on roots (C.i.) is a nitrogen fixer). An occasional individual was killed by microbes girdling the base of the stem, & we saw some very fresh signs of this type. They stay with us at ~4500 ft. elevation. It was really sunny, but cold, & with a cold westerly wind blowing. The pine trees in then isolated groves on Pinos Canelitos, One population at a slightly lower elevation was completely killed, with only 2 seedling alive today. In the Chears Ridge & Chirca cat deposits, partial kills occurred and regeneration is good. After lunch at last site, enjoying the downtown view. At 1330 we & J left for home. We arrived at Lis home 1700 & I got home 1730.
