LIDICKER 1981 Hastings Res - St. Lucia Mtns. trip: Biosystematists April 25-26 April 25 - 0815 - met Joe Gregory at his home in La Foyette & we traveled together for this day). Dr. Hastings at ~11:30. Several talks & walks and Recreation. For weeks we combined resources with Dick Sage. Cool will likely decreaseable rain in afternoon or again in evening. Stayed overnight at Reservation. Saw Joann Daly's dirt places & did trips for his spider research. Microtus sign is moderate, that is higher than I have seen it for quite a few years. Lots of retreat scats on slopes of Schodhorn Hill. Also saw rock badger diggings in a number of places. Jim Griffin's spider-jumping excursions on the top of Schodhorn Hill show 400 odd seedlings /m2 when I counted plots then in zone. April 26 - 0915 left with Jim Griffin & J. Daly, Sage & Gregory, & 1 other for Santa Lucie's. Took road to Jascij are Hot Spgs. Observed Griffin's successes on plots I turned him from on Chavis Ridge & above Chia camp campground, & shortly went 2 mi. further south to site overlooking Sahins Valley & Diablo Range to the east & the lowest ridge of the St. Lucie's above Big Sur to the west. At this last site we could observe deforest regeneration after the major fire about 3 yrs ago. Lobium seed was scattered after the fire & although this seems to have limited effect on conudally expansion, the Microtus have obviously taken advantage
