LIDICKER 1981 Jan. 17 cool. A - musky smell & fresh dropping noticed. Some [illegible] contained mostly crab shells. Task of sleeping gear to the Bank dormitory & thu way to the Tila Restaurant = time for dinner. After dinner walked by moonlight back to Station. Rain had stopped & moon was shining through the dark thin layer of clouds. Behind the first dune ridge there is a fresh water pond w/ 3 O stars Rich found noticed around its pond shells of both the active snail Helminthoglypta & the inactive Helix. We were going to investigate how far from the dead Helix extended & whether or not Helminthoglypta was being excluded. Our search was insufficient in that only Rich had a light. However, we found in c 30-40 min. search, crab shells, 1 Helix & lots of Helminthoglypta, but for live snails we found 17 Helamnths. to O Helix. We found also 1 baby snail which seemed to be the latter form. Walked back to the dormitory on the dune road. Jan. 18 Moving clear w/ light winds; cool early becoming warm. After breakfast in the dawn, we picked up all the traps in the order: transsects B, A, C, D. Rich has all the data. The species were caught: Passerculus sandwichensis, Mimus californicus or Reinhardthis mystacea. The last was only on transsect "D". We also saw large numbers of deer, w/ Rich saw Lepus californicus & Sylvilagus breckmani. Finished traps at v 10:20. Walked out
