LIDICKER 1975 Feb 8 - Went with family to Arco Nuevo State Park in San Benito Co. It rained off & on all day & there was a strong wind from the W & SW. Arrived at 0950. We saw quite a few elephant seals on the mainland, although there was no fighting or chasing. All were 8 to excuse for 1 adult f + ~3wks old pup. Also saw 1 large dead seal on the beach. The f+ pup was concurrent with a lg f who was lying within 10 ft of them. Birds seen there: Eared Grebe -4 (fresh water) Harold Grebe?- 4 + on ocean Brown Pelican-1+ Pelagic Cormorant- 10+ Brandt's (possibly Dahl-cr.) Cormorant- con. Surf Scoter-10+ mm:land. Scoter -25+ Ruddy Duck - 6+ Red Br. Merganser -2+ Red-t. Hawk- 1 juv Marsh Hawk - 21 Kestrel - 1 Horned Rich-300+ Wh. ev. Sparrow -30+ Song SP. - 30+ Coot- 10+ Blk Turnston- 30+ Willet- 30+ Sanderling - 25+ Glacier-w. Gull-15+ W. Gull - chkd Cal: f. Gull - 1+ mid-at. gulls - untd. mid-at. smty acid -1 Marvin Dove -6+ Scaut Joy -1 Adin - sea Starking- + Brewer's Blackbird - + At 1230 we went to Pescadero Beach & Marsh. First we stopped south of the creek to have lunch & forish in like food on a distinctly isolated island. Then we went to the main beach & walked along the lake to the west of the highway & N. 1/2 the coast. Birds seen in this area:
