June 13 cont.
10-15%. some spring. Second sow missing, although
I found all of the 102 that I had put out. On trip Ios
caught a bad c bear coming in from - at wood
house. He did not see the bear, however.
Got to bed for late date.
June 14
Got Alaska Air flight and g Fairbanks at 0700.
I had arranged for Don Collins to meet me in Anchorage
to deliver some frozen tissues (sections from Bering
Street & 1 area other). However, he did not show up. The
flight was stopped in Seattle. I finally got back to S.F.
about 15:50 and got a 16:35 Airport Connection bus to
Berkeley. Nconi met me at the Durant Hotel, and we
went directly to MV2 to learn of the frozen specimens
I was carrying.
Bird List for the Trip:
Arctic tern - 1 (seen 9th & 10th at Otto Lake)
Long-tailed Jaeger - 2 (Met)
Common Golden-eye - 2+ (OK)
Barrow's Goldeye - ~6 birds seen (OK) on 9th but only seen
flying away; they had Golden-eye wing pattern, but all black
heads; could not find them on 10th.
Bufflehead - 6 (3 fms.) - 2 fm. = met & 1 OL ; 1 fr. - Met seen
on 10th w/ ? W.L. W. Scotcher did & chased all our food.
White-winged Scoter - 12 (Met), > 10+ (OL)
Common Merganser - 1 fm. (OK)
Harlem's Hawk - 1
