June 11 cost
to Irving Jack's, on Goldstream Rd. Two miles before
Going back to INF & then home. Stayed at a rest
at the Blue Dolphin for a pizza instead of eating
dinner. 57:11 covered, windy, intermittent rain
- afternoon & evening.
June 12
Got to INF by 0800. Got Bob Murray off to
go picking up traps at Hlaly; he left about 0900.
Worked until ~1500 autopsying samples of small
mammals caught at the Hlaly - Otto Lake study
area since 15 July 1978. This site was in forest
for 2000 to 2800 ft, although traps set at the lowest
elevations caught nothing. The site is 1 1/2 to 2 km.
n of the Mt. McKinley National Park boundary, and is
on the slopes SW of Otto Lake. Locality for specimen
labels worked out as: 5 1/2 km. W, 4 1/2 km. S Hlaly, N. side
Alaska Range.
Then we worked on data analysis for rest of
evening & into the evening.
June 13
Autopsied specimens brought back by Bob Murray yesterday;
he got back ~2030. This took most of morning. Analyzed
data, talked with Gerry Swartz for about 20 min., a
worked on manuscripts with Jerry Wolff. Went to
dinner with Jerry at Grace Curry's. Then Jerry & I went
back to INF to continue working. Murray filled up
all our traps at Hlaly yesterday, & reported that
