LIDICKER
1979
June 11 cost.
To the lake came M & we had some difficulty getting
it back on. Then we found that the same fire wheel
did not fit on the 5 wheel carts. A State Police van
dropped by & found as a file what we want to
exchange the bolt holes in the fire tire wheel so
that we got it on. As it was cold & windy we
went to the Allegiance trail on the side road
(to write our
(1/2 campsite level) and the we turned on its learned
side.
[illegible]
Continued digging for nests on grid after lunch.
The we went to 27 mi. S.E. of day for nests
then M.x population is definitely down there, being
restricted to the deep creek banks. We found them
then at first on active mound. No nests were found
in it's case, known. Above the creek banks, the litter
is quite dry with little middle land for M.x.
Brows were thick and growing nicely. Took picture of
2 ? M.S. birds just. Returned to 28 mi. (grid side) and
looked for nests on N side of road. This is
the area in which M.x. low abundant in 1975 &
naturally common in years thereafter. Now bird sign
is pretty good restricted to the small creek directly
opposite the grid. Voles found here & lots of vole sign.
Several nests found. Left about 1530 for drive
back to Fairbanks.
We brought back a total of 15 nests: 7 winter,
6 summer & winter continent, & 2 summer only.
