L1 Dickson 1979 Jun 10 card. high tomr to Hess Creek. Got back to Jerry's station at 18w. Dropped down m at 1 AB. Jun 11 Got to INF at 0730. Picked up station wagon & Bob Mowry, & Michelle Abaza (for INF), & L:libby Siberling from 1AB & Joanne Carey (picked her up at her home - Goldstone Rd). Drove to Hess Creek field area. Intermittent rain all morning & a little in afternoon too. Cool (~45°F) + strong winds all day. The weather minimized the impacts to weather at Hess Creek. We arrived at the study area about 1130. Went to grid & started digging nests of M. xanthognathus. Michelle & I set 16 kg. Slow time stops, traded L:R nests. Motelada M.x sign on grid + surrounding area, especially along a vicinity of creek which is lower than the previous years. On our morning found cuttings of Mertensia (bluebells), Vaccinium, & Arctostaphylos from worse-worse. Sign extended on W side 1 curb at least for 20 yds from creek. Population is hardly down digging than last year. On one nest, found 5 nestlings - eyes recently open, about 10-12 g., + 3 #8's + 2 #6's. Later a chick was seen entering the burrow system when they were reflected. At ~1200 we went back to car to fix a flat tire at lower level. We had some trouble fixing the tire as the car rolled off the side & in trying to get the car back on the level just if it moved, the wheel cover
