8 June cont.
U-shaped trough (?) 102 McG:11 ramp trucks. There
were set 2 at a definite wide sides 30 ft or more
apart. The two sets were 2 - 12 ft. from each other.
Microcline sign has constant non-existant. For the majority
of trap sites I dug into the thick mass of sand = "running"
4 - 10" under the surface. A few days later by smaller
entrances, this nothing looked definitely pitch.
Went back to Idledy when we had lunch, visiting
at Jerry's nearby gas station. Then we went into McKinley
Park to Savage River Camp when the NSF trailer was
parked & Joanne Carey was writing them forms. While
setting up, it was hot, with no wind, a swarm of
mosquitoes. As we arrived at camp it started
raining hard. Got hot my back & we cooked our
dinner on an open fire. Later that evening it
started raining again & continued all night.
Jerry & I worked on manuscripts - evening.
At stopping over I took 3 photos, the first
looking back at Otto Lake. Several Lepus americanus
seen or drove down from Freivbinks. Tanasciurus
hudsonicus seen and Park.
June 10
Overcast with wind that shows & much cooler.
After breakfast we drove further into Park going through
Saddle Pass to next river (East Fork) before turning
back. Mammals seen: Cavia - 10 (7+3);
Moose (2 4f's close run sign & together); Dale
