Bird List cont.
Polatukia ( ~ 800 ft.), 1+ at Polakuloa + 1 family
seen at Akaka Falls on Hamakua Coast.
Red-billed Leiothrix - 3 (2 at Polakuloa + 1 at 9400 ft.
down Hale Pohaku) - loud scolding notes.
Elejalio (Chasiampis sandwichensis) - 1 (Polakuloa),
not seen well, not good enough for identification; noted
when like falcon & low of bird is overexposure in
Hawaii to respond to squawking.
Amakihi (Laxops virens) - heard singing & calling
frequently from Polakuloa to 9400 ft. down Hale Pohaku;
a male (?) thing glimpsed has seen well only once.
Akeake (Himatione sanguinea) - 4+ all seen
on lava between Polakuloa & turnoff to Hale Pohaku.
One bird was singing while parked & flying & circled
and did a territorial calling sound came of
lava lava (falco-like type).

June 4 (Alamada San Siquin cor. Cal.)
Microtus seen to be moderately 2:1 in this region.
Several were seen, being from head in the dry grass, & 1
egg, cd. 3 was caught at the base of the Castle Rock cliffs,
We also caught 1 Reithrodontomy, at dusk on the top
of Castle Rock & about 4-5 june. Oryzomys were seen
(2 caught) along down of cliffs. Fox tracks found + 1
coyote trail calling. Bt. H. Owl - 1 ad. + 4 young hatched up on
Castle Rock; 1+ Barn Owls + 3 abundant egg.
