LIDICKER
1978
July 5 cont.
One of the 2 ladies then gave us a box of respirator & 1
of aspirin which they had just picked. At Brusio
we went back to the hay barn we had trappled last night &
out 4 live toads & 3 frogs in the barn; in the centre of
the barn across the street (proctors & unions stand nearby),
we set 2 frogs & 3 live toads & a neighbour next door took
2 live toads to set. In order to make all these new sets, we
removed all evening trap toads from the Pensione & had
12 of the live toads. Returning to the Pensione we
(was set on)
went with a man who we presume is the father of the
(This time out to be not them?)
lady who runs the Hotel. He took us high up on the
mountain side to the W where he has a house at
1480 m. ("Carona"). This is about 2-3 below San
Antonio (clear view with the upper edge of the Lago).
We set our remaining 5 live toads & 4 frogs in a small
room where the cats could not enter. Then we looked around
some of the beautiful meadows above them & found crickets
in one place. Coming down we borrowed the hotel ladies' two old dead birds with us. This man (presumed
grandfather of the kids) said the mice in his barn were
now special kind. He also recognized one species of
Mrs Josef worms as the "tobacco worm"!
