LIDICKSK 1978 May 22 cont. additional heat on mid-dens. Atmst 11/0, we headed for fox holes. Stopped = Liverpool Ave and 4th at Sam's. They had ham & cheese for $3.95 or chicken & ham for $3.50, but as they were all out of ham, we had cheese sandwiches for $1.80. Birds seen near Horse Creek: G.W. Teal - 3 + 8♀ Mark Hawk - 1 ♂ (on way up to Hors Ct.) S2.-shored Hawk - 1 ♀ Least Sandpiper - 1 Lesser Yellowlegs - 1 Snipe - 3+ (1♀r. watched near Hors Ct.; when we came down & he spread the feathers on back & tail fluttered violently. After awhile he took off & started wandering.) Hawk Owl - 1 + (12/08 = #17 - two men saw carp for 1hr. + (2315-2345) & called intermittently); call sounded like Saw-whet Owl but louder & a little less wavering); also found a pellet on our grid which by size seems likely to have been Plains). Flicker - 10♂ Horned Lark - 3 V.gr. Snaildarter - 30♂ Tiger Snaildarter - 20♂ Grey Jay - 5+ Common Raven - 5+ Boreal Chickadee - 10♂ Raven - 25♂
