LIDICKER 1978 May 20 cont. Trap - 1 M.x 3, 5 fish: bow & grid - avg 1 fang trap. At 27.8 mi., had 2 M.x (4 ½) + 1 Chatter mackies. At 27 mi. trap, had 2 M.x and red hitches. After checking grid traps, set crawncent line S & N grid, 5 fish (Shiners) each. Lots of M.x sign especially S grid. Walked back to old day w/with a grid & M.x sign in front throughout the town area, although perhaps not as dense as near the creek bottoms. Saw lots land crabs & seemed to be alot of activity. Found mackerel scat how mud which was almost undying for 2 hours & M.x. We didn't catch too much or grid fishing became the main engament activity. Back in camp we could hear winnowing a strike by M in the Hess Creek bottoms below camp. Got to head at 2145 even though the sun was shining. May 21 - Plan grid 0700-0800, fished checked rest of fishing line & back to camp @ 0900 for breakfast. Weather warming & too cool, sand & surface water frozen. Picked up 3 little fish on SW hidden-off grid. At 27.8 mi.. - caught 2 J&J C.r. At 27.5 (drawn N side) got 1 M.x 4, + at trap day camp end, I got 1 3' + 1 4' M.x in my line & 5 fish. The S crawncent line off the grid extends for ~ 25 mi. from T-line. Caught M.x was taken: 4 ft deep but not the furthest out. After breakfast we drove to upper Hess Creek camp road (mi. 24).
