Lidice 1977 May 22 cont. - Lake Minchumina a small fish hook started early (1200-1300). Then we walked 5 long lake shore to see a cave we had not yet seen + to look for M.X. signs. Passed Kenny's cave & stopped to chat with him briefly. Then went on, around Blackie's to the property of Jens & Helen Forsaeth. We wished to talk to them + they invited us for coffee. Both are former school teachers & his daughter who just graduated in biology from U. of Alaska. They are building attractive house good cabin & already have a small log cabin to live in temporally. We learned about life in this community from them. However, they did not add anything new- might to our knowledge of M.X. life history. We then walked 400 yards along woods trail. Again talked to Kenny but learned nothing new. Got to civ strip Falkenburg (w/ Ma F + G.) just in time (~1715) to see Past. Land is a 4-seater came to pick us up. The flight took us about 1-1/2 hrs. & the only just low at about 1000 ft. elevation so we could see clear + almost identify the birds (in one case a pair of swans) on the numerous lakes, fields & rivers we flew over. Saw 2 moose + 1 bull bear. Landed in Fairbanks that cost. Flight took $3175 - tax $36. 1830. Went to Inst. N.F. to loan specimens, & McGowan picked us up to go home. Very tired, too to back fairly early. May 23 Up dark 0730, + at 0900 Jerry + I started out for our study area at Blue Creek, on the pipeline land road. We made good time + arrived in the area by noon. It is interesting to see the progression
