1977
April 27 cont.
Toured th SREL's new building - almost finished,
went out with W.T. (field) G. Gibbons - hydrologist
(U. Akron & Mich. State - student of Dr. Hensley).
Saw some of his study area, & the water out on Palo
Pond (large reservoir used for cooling hot water
effluent from nuclear reactors on plant). A great a
few casts we got 3 large large-mouthed bass attached
to the cover when hot water comes into the reservoir
(threw the net to someone studying them bass who
already had caught ~ so by sticking - all to be hooked &
released). Toured large section of reservoir also with
Becky Sharitz who is studying thermal ecology of the 2
species of Tryphe that occur in the lake. Went back
with Mike & a truck to Shirl's home where we had dinner
& cleaned house for a get-together the evening (I ran
left yesterday for a vacation on the beach). Talked
did evening until after 2300. The final day-long until
0115. Others from SREL w/whom I talked: Don
Smith (thermal ecology of Gannasice, family at Univ.
Montana when worked on hot fish with Lee Metzger, a few
Stan MacLean & others from Barrows, 1970), Paul Johns
(looks on deer at an S.R. Plant), Dave Nelson (thermal
dragon, exp. developer of amphibians & turtles), &
Bob Nestor (Mike's business manager).
