Lidicker 1976 Aug. 27 cont. On the far side of the road at 10 o'clock hours. We set large red traps in low grass area on N. side of rd. (When we had caught both Mx & M. Pennsylvania last year). Finished this around 1700. The drive to mile 28 1/2 is on a ridge road with grass growing in a bowl to an opening and supply depot for Algeria. This was set up camp on the edge of the cleared area. It was a beautiful clear & sunny warm day. As we were eating we could see a rainstorm moving in strong off to the E looking very big. Mosquitos were constantly bad in the woods around our camp then came four plus feet of grass and a large number from thick brush which insisted on flying to us or crawling over us. 2000-2110 Run grid & lines N & S of Jt. Caught 11 Mx & 2 Cs on grid & 2 more Mx on each of the surrounding lines. The last 4 were brought back to camp. On the really sunny stroll there was 1 more Mx. This last we marked & released at trap point. As it was getting dark we decided not to check the traps at 27 mi. Found that we went on to the pipe road itself & about opposite the old trapping area (Stone West's area) we end and set traps (on group on each side of the pipes). But traps were located with almost better or a few yards. Returned to camp. Saw a dead small Red Squirrel during the day. Got into our sleeping bags at 2245.
