several fresh runways. So, I suspect predation pressure
is heavy.
Jeff, Ken & cousin Tommy checked the first several
traps in afternoon. One trap was removed, we caught a
Microtus (within 1 hour of setting), it was moved
to the inside of a water pump housing where rodent activity
was obvious. This left 18 traps out overnight.
March 14
Picked up traps about 1100. Trap #2 pump housing
contained 1 Peromyscus leucopus - looking at it was
released. All other traps were empty, but I was cleared.
Microtus was brought back to Berkeley & kept overnight
cage in a the trap. One March 15 is was killed,
blown kidney & liver taken & skin nailed (WZL#3509).
Alaskan Trip
24 Aug - 2 Sept.
Aug. 24 Left S.F. airport 1420. Stopover: Seattle.
Arrived Anchorage ~1800 (local time) & went to Anchorage
Woodward Hotel - reservation having been made by
Arnel Johnson. ($28/night "gold rate").
Aug. 25 Went to U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Office
(4454 Business Park Blvd.) to [illegible] visit with
Arnel Johnson. Arrived about 0930.
Visited with him until 1400 when I drove on to
the Alaska Fish & Game office (333 Raspberry Rd.)
to see Don Collins. Visited with him until ~
