May 27 cont.
I walked NE about 1/4 mi. & set 15 Min. spr. in
a small s along a creek w/a few ltrngs. close the
beach. Back at Benson's we set 10 Longwrl's
in the woods & around a wood pile. # Clint & I
ran a few of the traps out earlier, & had 1
Enutomus alleni in a trap set by Benson at the
end & a well rotted log (trap set for s others).
This chipmunk appears to be tolerably very
inconspicuous & is not vocal as is typical of chipmunks.
It was a ? in reproductive condition. Had dinner
with Benson's before retiring to our motel.
May 28
Had lunch at Pt. Reyes Station, then returned
to Benson's about 10:15 & checked traps thru
the camp. Quite a few Phronygenus minimulatus
middles, many traps were strong, & many of the
live traps were tom open - apparently by raccoons.
Benson saw another chipmunk investigating one of
his traps. The we went to our traps near the
beach (6 mi. NE Pt. Reyes). Here we had 1 Zapus
trivortatus, 1 Microtus, & 1 Phronygenus minimulatus.
At our main trapping area in th woods along the
ridge we had quite a few Microtus, 1 Zapus,
1 Sorex vagrans, 2 Sorex townshndgei (including
a jwr. taken in a live trap). Conway filled the
sirens. I found only 1 Zapus & 2 P. mini culata
for shinning. Conway & I left Travers about 11:15.
