(birds seen in Japan cont.) Zosterops japonicus - Japanese white-eye (captivity only) Passer montanus - tree sparrow; com. ? Pyrrhula pyrrhula - bullfinch (seen on birds) Oct. 23 Monterey Bay Pelagic Trip Organized by Peter Arne and consisting of 15 people (5 from his extension class - ornithology) + including also Marshall White, Bill Army, Bob Rainor, & Bob Hamilton. Boat bound Taze. Left from Monterey about 0930, went W along S shore of Bay to open ocean with N toward Sta. Cruz, returning in c SSE direction then S with N Bay on the E to later. Returned 1630. Clear sunny day with tremendous swells along S shore of Bay in AM, decreasing late + northwest, but sea fairly rough all day. Bird list for Monterey Bay only: Loons - several seen, all were either Common or Arctic juvenile forms. W. Grebe - 1 (later) Fleshwar - 15+ (both color forms, but mostly dark; 2+ dead pelicans seen) Pink-footed Shearwater - ~30 (cont.)
