LIDICKOR 1974 Dec. 17 cont. A total of 84 trips (by, colly. Shenn's) were set by the group specifically for Microtars in this comp. Ripp has more details in his notes regarding trip distribution by location. more on bird list: Bkh. thr. Sparrow (Ripp) Blk. tailed Gnatcatcher (Rigg) Kestrel Peregrine Falcon (Ripp) Zon-tailed Hawk (brother) unidest. bluebird We drove through Valle San Rafael and on through the mountains to Ensenada. Then we proceeded N on Lighen 1 (iron-foll road) to when it crosses Arroyo Martinez. The village of El Mission is on the N. edge of the arroyo on e: the side of the highway. We drilled off into the arroyo (S. side) to camp & set traps for Microtars. By this time it was about 1600. but immediately began to find Microtars signs, quite a bit staining fresh, in various places on the valley floor. One of the best places for - Dystichilis and a hard - pan Sclerocoma mixed in + "spike grass" clumps scattered around. Some of signs were even about a few feet above the valley bottom on the S edge when it was growing moderately (Eschscholzia took here). I set out 34 by colly. sh. - and spike grass, in Dystichilis, etc. (6 of them was in a slightly drier or better drained area, but still looking good for M.).
