LIDICKER 1974 Dec. 13 cont. Then we headed south. Found a DOR 6th N. Off 7 mi. N Ejido Urupen and saw a Sparganum buckling 7 mi. N. of San Vicente. At 2 mi. N Ejido Urupen saw an area of "spike grass" which may have Microtusus in it. At San Vicente we got gas & water. About 1 mi. S of the turnoff to the Meling River, we took an inconspicuous road toward the coast. This is at a very small village called San Telmo de Albojo. The road parallels the bed of the San Telmo Arroyo. We were looking for possible Microtus habitats. But I cross the river bed was dry, & the plants were mostly deaded off. After going about 6 mi. we turned (just just when road crosses the arroyo & one can see the ocean about miles away) and drove back about a mile to camp in the shelter of some large Rhus "trees". I set out at 20 by, collecting skins as soon the first of the valley where the soil was quite sandy. The area had been burned during that extremely wet few years. There was an abundance of burrows, many big distinctly fresh. I just took mining by my foot, knowing that seemed to be those of a large D:footmouse. Then I set 5 more on the camp side (N) of the road where the soil was darker, less sandy, & much rockier. After dinner we shined until 230. Then I checked my traps. In the line of 20 I had only 1 Peromyscus sp. + 1 spring trap. I also saw
