Lichten 1974 11 Dec. cont. Calif. Quail, W. Bluebird - corn. Raven - 2 , Flicker Brown's Bluebird, etc. On way to main highway we noted that we were 1.2 mi. N of the ranch, 1.8 mi. to the dirt rd. running parallel to the highway & 2.6 mi. to the highway. From this get to the road we went off the highway on gravelly less 0.9 mi. & 2.7 mi. to Canada del Sol development to N of Highway. This latter turnoff, on calculation is ~76 mi. by rd. from Tecate & way in the other C. lead toward W = 1927, 4.9 mi. from whr we joined the highway to Loreto. We went on to Tecate & then Tijuanas. Here we changed some way & continued on the lower toll highway toward Ensenada. The sunset as we were driving south. Additional birds noted between cant & the coast: Roadrunner (various W of Tecate). Arrived or broke at La Salina at dusk. Then we met Dave Bradford, Dave Krohn, & Bill Glanz as we had arranged. We drove N across the Arroyo Murrieta & found a road down into salt works - easy to coast. This is just E of the toll highway 10 but W of the old Highway no. 1. Although it was completely dark, we all saw and some frogs in the marshes. I set out 17 Eg. coll., Shrikes = the Salicorne & Dysiticlis; then I drove into some large clumps of "spike grass" & all of this, to define fresh Microtus signs.
