L1 DICKEN
1974
Kensington, Col 57. (108 Willow Lane)
August 18 - 1600 (75° F.) - 1 chicken observed
feeding at hummingbird feeder; took 4 sips. This
is the first observation of this behavior since
before the breeding season (last obs. of non-humming
at feeder was on April 1). Feeder was maintained
during this interval, but then were extensive periods
when I was out of town & observations could not
be made.
Oct. 25 (1254) - NIL reports 1 chicken at feeder;
took sips by perching on spout.
Oct. 27 - 0940, mostly overcast, rain during the
lunch, 55° F. Flock of chickens + 1 Townsend's
Warbler = lochyked. One chicken went to feeder, sat
on spout & took sips. It chased an Anna H.
away when it went to the feeder. Another chicken
took a sip from in the feeder, but did not go to it.
1110, mostly overcast, 63° F. Chickens came to
feeder & hovered 3 times with short nest & where
NIL saw - chickens looking for the feeder when it
was removed for filling.
Although I cannot find my record of it, the feeder
must have been discontinued shortly after this so no
further observations were recorded.
