LIDICKER
1974
Feb. 11 cont.
when kit went to feeder & drank. Hummer returned
& was drinking when a was-kit came & dislodged
the hummer who locked off. Was-kit took ~3 sips.
In a few moments it came back, & a limit thrush
flew close by the feeder but the was-kit did not leave.
(0830) - 46° F & overcast. - Was-kit again to
feeder momentarily.
(0857) - was-kit to feeder & pair of chickadees
is nearby lunch. One chickadee went on and the other
acted as if it wanted to go to the feeder that was
inhibited by the was-kit in the bush nearby. The
was-kit went to the feeder once more, then the chickadee
did, then the 2nd chickadee & the was-kit moved
from time. A hummer came in toward the end of this
action and hovered in an agitated fashion 3 or
4 ft. away, but did not attack. When the was-kit finally
left, the hummer fed (Anne, 8?), and the limit
Thrush flew by quite close but the hummer did not
leave. The limit thrush seemed to chase a
was-kit by flying in its direction several times,
but pursuit was not close and the was-kit seemed
to ignore the thrush.
Feb. 12 (0930) 46° F. Two was-kits taking turns
at the feeder, each went twice & took up to 5 sips
each time. At 8 Anne H. watched the end of this
session, but stayed ~10 ft. away.
