LIDICKER
1974
Kensington, Calif. (108 Willard Lane)
(hummingbird feeder observations)
Jan. 19 (1204) 55°F. One chickadee came to feeder
and took 2 sips; no hummingbird around at the time.
Jan. 27 (1330) 53°F. Wren-kit seem to eat
together berry & then drink at the feeder momentarily.
Another wren-kit followed the first after it left the
feeder, but did not go to the feeder itself.
Beautiful, clear day.
(1337) - Wren-kit back to feeder. First one
landed on sprout & took sip very quickly.
(1405) - Wren-kit drank from feeder twice,
justly having a berry fetched from sprout. [Jan. 29-may?]
Feb. 2 (1345) - Wren sunny day. Pair of wren-kits
and feeder. Each fed in turn, taking 2 sips.
Then after ~30 sec., each fed again taking 2 sips.
A Anna H. came later, but not when wren-kits were
near feeder.
Feb. 5 (0835) 38°F - 1 wren-kit to feeder &
took 1 sip. (1420) - Wren-kit took at least 2 sips.
(1830) 46°F - Put up feeder after it had been
around for ~15 min. Chickadee came to within 1
ft. of feeder while I was still attaching it to the
bush. I stood quietly but after a few minutes it
moved off into a bush. So, I moved back ~7 ft.
It came immediately & perched near the feeder when
I sat & watched her for several minutes. Kindly,
