LIDICKER 1973 April 29 cont. Both grids were electing, but the one on the first grid seemed further along & my line has been finished About 10-11:30 he checked both lines again to cloud trips. The purpose of this was to see if we could catch any ground squirrels before it got too hot. We did have 1 Spermophilus leucurus in the tracked grid. We also got a number of Uta stansburiana. On both grids we caught a marked desert tortoises 1 on tracked & 2 on control. Sev. additional tortoises were spotted crossing the road & were helped across. Carrivore tracks seen frequently on both grids. Actually it did not last up too much today but remained very windy & cool. After lunch we went briefly with Rardsberg for a few groceries. From 5-7 (hour or daylight saving time) we went to tracked both grids. We found that 1 trap too many had been set on the tracked grid Weather - continued cool, latter cold & very windy. We had dinner in a gale & dust storm. Large bank of clouds seen across the Tetelopi's. April 30 The strong wind kept buffeting us until about 0230. Then it calmed down & remained so until ~ 0630. We got up at 0600 & checked both grids. Weather: quite cold and partly cloudy. There was a very large dark cloud off to south of Lake Koskaya. The undertail of the car suggested that a few dust if rain fell during
