17 July 1030 - 1 Gannet s.s.w., score 1 Korioks throughout the day - justly Turzicks.
18 July no birds or mammals seen today
19 July - 2 jaegers. In afternoon when about 175 miles from N. end of Azores begin seeing Cory's Shearwaters (~7 to 10 seen); 1 had white V on rump but otherwise looked like Cory's).
20 July - joined Azores during night; rough seas & strong wind; no birds seen; 1 jaeger said I saw some flying fish.
21 July - mod rough; no birds, mammals or fish seen.
22 July - strong SW winds slowing progress. In AM ~4 to 6 tropic birds seen; one had def. yellow bill & one def. red. Then must have been white-tailed Trop. c bird & were at ~45°W. + 31½°N. Also saw flying fish - late PM.
23 July
Quite a few flying fish; no birds.
24 July 1 Trop. c bird in AM (not seen well enough to check bill color). In afternoon a small sandpiper hung round the ship - pale brown with wing stripe, shallow wing beat reminiscent of Spotted Sandpiper; also light colored like Red Phalarope in winter plumage - justly as Spotted Sandp.
Ground Trop. c Caper about noon.
25 July Lots of flying fish; a jaeger reported 1 Trop. c bird. Starting about 1645 saw few Sooty Terns (about 25 mi. from land) & continued seeing them
