LIDICKEN 1972 May 28 (Sunday) Left car at garage, & rented Cortina ST2, Wigan (1969) & continued N. Left M6 on A65 to Kendal & drove through Lake District: to Windermere & Bowness & than N. along Ullswater & to Penrith. Returning to M6 we continued N to Gretna Green on Scottish border. May 29 A74 to Glasgow, along R. Clyde to Dumferton, along Loch Longard to Tarbet, to Lochgilphead to Oban. Found place for night at N. Connel overlooking Loch Etive May 30 Continued N. to Fort William, & along Loch Ness to Inverness. Turned S. on A9 to Kingussie in Cairngorm Mtns. May 31 Continued S. to Edinburgh where we walked around town, did some shopping & spent the night. June 1 Went S. on A7 to M6 near Carlisle via Galashiels & Selkirk. Took M6 back to Holmes Chapel in Cheshire when we picked up our repaired car. Because of the new piston we could not go down 45 mph. for ~ 500 miles. Drove to Congleton to Leek & to Kirk Langley (just N. of Derby) on A52 where we spent the night. June 2 A6 to Leicester & Market Harborough; then A508 to Northampton, A43 to A5 to M1, S.ILuton. M1 & M10, A405 & A6 to 108) to Barnet & finally home, arriving about 1545.
