1972
April 24 cont.
NE winds. Checked traps, which took almost
all day. Caught 10+ mice + 5 nor wild mice
caught on hi line. Helen got blood samples for thochim analysis from 75 of these. At 1715, a RAF rescue
helicopter landed on the island with several Coast
Guard Officers who were making an inspection if
some kind. Only about 1/4 of the mice were examined
once. On grey sand seen new Ward Lickell (+
also see this yesterday).
April 25
Graham got up early + ran round the traps before
breakfast. Then we ran the rest finishing at 1405.
Caught a total of 111. Helen got about 3 more
blood samples. Weather: mostly clear with brisk westerly
winds, switching to southerly late afternoon. Quite
warm - sun and mid-day. After lunch, took a shower
+ shaved, talked with Graham about his date, + then
took a walk round southern half of island taking
some photographs. Before + after dinner, all 4 of
us worked on processing the 5 mile mice whilst Mike
was finished testing in his metabolic chamber, + were :
killed.
April 26
Warm sunny morning turning overcast with
brisk westerly winds. Didn't get rain showers in afternoon
evening. Graham again ran some traps (S end) before
breakfast. We ran the rest following breakfast + finishing
