LIDICKER 1965 June 25 We broke camp, crossed the border & went S. on US. 75. At Donaldson, Minn., we turned W on Minn. 11, crossed the Red R. into N. Dak., cont. W. on N. Dak. 66, then S. on US. 81 to Grafton, then W again on N. Dak. 17 to just W/ N. Dak. 18 & S. on this to US. 2. Where N. Dak. 18 crosses the Forest River (Grand Forks Co.), we stopped for lunch. It was very windy & overcast. This is an area of tall grass prairie w/ scattered rows of trees; grass is 3-4 ft. tall in many places (took 3 photos). Birds seen: Chy-coloral Sparrow - corn (very hard to see feeding on insects including small caterpillars on shrubs & small trees adjacent to grass). Song Sparrow Horn Lark Red-winged Belted Kingfisher Yellow Warbler Goldfinch E. Phoebe Robin Barn Swallow Red-wing Red-tailed Hawk Chipping Siskin Brown-headed Cowbird (same spot) Lakota, N. D. - Ring-billed gull - 1 (Franklin's gulls have been flying corn for least 30 miles).
