DICKEN 1972 March 17 cont. Caught nothing, & moved then to two or better locations nearby. Killed remaining mice from @gilsey. Froze all the skulls for skeletons & skinning later (88+99). Thrown away: 1 ad. ♀ (had kind in carrying case) } 8 juv. 88 22 13 .. ♂♀ Also 1 ad. ♂ & 1 ad ♀ were given to Sheila Spencer. Then we processed 55 of the Salk Ronaldsay mice & the 4 from Burry. Three dead mice from S.Ronaldsay were thrown away: 1 ♂ & 2♀ (1 of the latter had a white band on her tail). We visited for several hours with the Spencers & didn't get to bed until after 2 Am. March 18 Went to Spence's to take care of yesterday's blood samples & to check our gear. I kicked off my 3 trip - again caught nothing. We left Spencer about 1130 (Albert & Sheila Spencer, Nisthouse, Harray, Ordway). Took our samples to freezer in hotel & then drove to Durness to return trip to Mr. Fred Rose (& to visit with him & wife). They are from the Glasgow area, & have been in Orkney about 5 years; they also spent many years in Nigeria. Address: Schoolhouse, Durness, Orkney. Arrived there at 1245 & left ~ 1335. Returned to hotel & checked out & then went to airport arriving about 1430. We were very uncertain whether we would get off or not because of the heavy fog. No BEA plane had gotten in for several days, & now had been to Shetland for 4 days. We
