Helen Murphy of Animal Genetics met the plane & drove to Lerwick where I checked into the Queens Hotel. We had lunch, & headed N to see crofts near Ollaberry on the N. main road. We shot at 4 "screws" (stacks of hay with grain attached) with the help of farmers. There were in Gless (SW of Ollaberry) & I was further N. near Oxensetter. We caught the mice as they came out of the 5 screws & got a total of 66; we missed very few. When the stacks were completely cleaned we found nests down the mouse holes & caught some in this way. It was extremely windy & quite cold. After dinner we went to local school where we had lab set up for processing mice. Earlier we also picked off a can of live mice sent by boat from Whalsay Island (caught on March 10). We worked until about 2300 processing mice. There
