March 9 - 18 1972
March 9 - Left Kings Cross Stn. - London on the
overnight sleeper to Aberdeen at 2215.
March 10
Av. at 0905. met by George Dunnet of the Univ. A
Aberdeen & Director of Cultarty Field St. & Vivian
Mackendall. Looked around Univ. town with Vivian
until 1245. Took several photos including one of
a bridge built in early 14th century. Had lunch with
Dunnet & Prof. V.C.Wynga-Eranda & VM. Then we
drove (Dunnet, VM, & myself) to Newburgh where
cultarty Stn is. They showed me the YTHAN (pron.
Yther)
Estray when any of their canal projects are carried
out. It was very impressive. Saw large nest of Eiders
which feed there & will be the subject of Vivian's
PhD thesis. Also saw hundreds of Oyster-catchers,
Red-shanks, 20m.
