+ Com. Shrews -3 (8 traps non-functional)
One gory vole + 1 shrew were dead in the traps.
Everything else unmarked & released, except the 2 shrews
which were only weighed & released. Then we pitched a
large lot of blackberries from around the farm building
& returned for lunch. In the afternoon we completed the
grid by adding the #10 line to the walled area and the
west end of the island. Just we hauled N to the coast
from the farm & the round the coast to the Wiche &
back to the study grid. We then set the 128 traps on
lines 2, 4, & 6, with 8 per stretch as before.
In our workshop we found 6 gopher pellets which
I later examined:
1). - 2 notes (1 has 3 & by palaeo style)
2). 1 note, but 2 tails 1 of which is
family Sovex
3,4,&5) all feathers, no bone
6) feathers + ~1/3 paper
In the early afternoon I also made flat skins of the
dead vole & shrew (we had no equipment for proper skins).
It was quite windy today & partially overcast; the wind
was from the west. A light fog & few stars could
be seen. There are 4 more goats left on the island
by the worker.
