LIDICKER 1971 28 March cont. Anderson - 20 Myer - 17 McCollen - 25 (1 hr. completed before his left foot lights + drop result). WCC - 15 (5 in Sali-Dyst. + 10 from Wheelock) 82 However, when we got back I think he had to, another bird allowed the house to escape. Another got away in the aerial room. So total catch should be 81. Fred brought along a straight stick he uses for counting running transects. It is 6 ft. long & 4 ft. thick or it was 10 ft can be sampled each time it is placed on the ground. We placed the stick 19 times & counted active mung. We took turns throwing it & sampled the grid area & on my to the N. slope. We got the following counts: 0, 2, 2, 2, 0, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 3, 3, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 3. = 18 mungs / 190 ft. or 9.47 " = 100 ft. X 9.7 = 92 mung / acre. Since he did not place the stick in shallow areas or other places of low Microtus habitat, but only: in the area actually trampled, this estimate is probably too high for the island as a whole. Angela jotted out 24 checklists (12 S + 12 F) for taking to her colony & starting for heterozygote tests.
