Brooks Island Trip
Mar 22 Called island & got permission from
Mrs Blanford to try an island on Mar 27-28.
Mar. 27
Arr. on island ~ 14:15 with Aysha Anderson,
Judy Myers, and Fred McCollum. Began setting
trip by 14:20. Beautiful day, sunny, warm &
clear, mod. westerly winds lessening during afternoon.
Vegetation lush; many flowers blooming, some
grasses starting to head out. To start with
us each 50 Longworth's:
Anderson: grid area N lot, below water tank
McCollum: ... S. lot, above water tank
& extending E to rd. on E. side.
Myers: above grid & extending to slopes
of N. Joint.
WCL: Salicornia + Dystichlis below
grid - 25; N half of W.
beach - 25
The first, Judy & I walked and looked. We
saw group of 10 small shrubs in Jurassic sands
S of N. Joint (near ridge of island) & another
group of 11 small shr. along th E end (~1/2 way
between house & bunkhouse.
Misc seemed to be only i isolated humbler,
I estimated 50-75/acre. Several garter snakes
were seen + 1 Red-tl. Hawk. Two elk-crs.
