Dego, I Agnic. Stock & skins as I could
look into the matter my export permit with
this letter of approval we went to the customs
office & then filled out 6 copies of a form. The
Jim showed me round town, including the market,
where a number of dead wallabies were for sale (a few
W. agilis & Dorcopsis). Margins says he is not an
Aphyllodele entomologist in his 17 years in the Darwin
area. Then we went to his home for a few hours,
& the drive we took to the Papuan Hotel in town.
I had known & then called Billy Beckwith & chatted
with him on the phone. I had tried unsuccessfully to
call him earlier, & Margins & I had also stopped
by his home about 10:00 but he was not there. We walked
around streets of Maning for a short while. Wrote
letter to Service & Baxter O'Brien.
Aug 28
Took few photos & Pat Marshy went to
PO. at 0830 & mailed box of specimens. Then checked
out of Papuan Hotel & walked up the hill to the
Museum (Papua & New Guinea Public Museum &
Art Gallery) to see Roy McKay - forester & one
qualified biologist & anthropologist on staff. He
showed me the museum collections & we talked about
his work. They have only a few hundred skins of
maybe a hundred species in detail. They also have a
