Aug 24 cont.
at 1430 for a island lifting collecting trip
starting on Manus Island. Took about an hour
& the rest to set out more traps. Went to south
forest ~0.8 mi. S by road & the Mai was down.
Set line of 25 traps which alternated no traps & sharing
except last trap which was a Mus Spec: bait banana.
The sec additional line of 17 Shares, giving total of
42 traps - this report & 57 at other area 11½ mi. N
making for grand total of 99 traps. After dinner
Vince & D, Alan Wilson & Dan Beluche drove
to S. Bump Camp when we arrived about 2020 to
check our mist net string across the entrance. It
contained 2 Hippotion galactitis, 1 H. diadema
& 2 large holes. All the holes seemed to be on the
right side for someone to run (no.3192)
outside of the net heading in. Returned to Mai hom
when I cleaned the 2 galactitis & started work on the
diadema before going to bed after 2300.
Aug 25
Vince had already gone with the Toyota when I got
up at 0700. It turned out he had gone to check the
net at S. Bump Camp. Besides another large hole in the
net, we had 2 H. diadema, 1 H. galactitis & 1 Ascelllurus.
After breakfast I most were too tangled to tell
which way they were going, but Vince thought that at
least 1 of the diadema was going in to the camp.
After breakfast I checked the traps. At 11½ mi. N
making I picked up all the traps. Caught 1
